A few commands to gather what packages are installed currently can greatly help with reinstalling them (f.i. after a major crash). You may want to install the home directories on a separate drive so that a system crash will have no effect on your user configuration. Otherwise backup your dotfiles, ~/.config, ~/.local etc. Consider backing up /etc to restore system configuration files.
